Submission Information

ARC Mag is currently seeking submissions for out inaugural Fall 2025 issue. Founded by two Newark natives, our first issue is organized around the theme “Home.” Please email all submissions to arcmag@arc-mag.com by Wednesday, December 31st.

This issue is interested in exploring winding roots and routes, kinship ties, affective experiences, and the places, spaces, and times that constitute “home.” While we often might associate the term with physical locales such as specific addresses, roads, cities, and townships; “home” may also be found in certain imaginaries or emotions. We invite you to consider (but not limit yourself to) the following questions/topics:

  • Is “home” necessarily defined by property relations?
  • The division between private/public spaces
  • Homesickness and related melancholias
  • The associations between “home,” “familiarity,” and “belonging”
  • Families (nuclear, multi-generational, found, co-operatives, etc.)
  • Human and non-human (co-) habitations
  • What are the genres of the home? What are the rituals of the home?
  • Homelessness/Houselessness
  • Types of dwellings (houses, apartments, campsites, vehicles, etc)
  • Is “home” defined by duration or length of stay? What distinguishes a ‘real’ home versus a ‘fake’ one?
  • The home as a site of cultural knowledge
  • Types of communities (cities, suburbs, urban, etc)
  • Moving and related experiences
  • The home as a site of domesticity and domestic labor
  • The home as a site of reproduction and reproductive labor
  • The associations between “home” and “childhood”
  • Evictions and related seizures
  • Rooms, walls, borders — both physical and non-physical
